The Girl ink series

Lost
13cm x 18cm
Ink on Archival Paper and Wooden Picture Frames - 10 Individual Pieces

This is a surreal narrative series of a girl who has ventured through different phases in her young life but has always stayed rooted to her simple existence. Lost goes beyond the usual existence and depicts a journey of exploration into the realms of fantasy and make believe. The drawings bleed into the sides of the frame to show us that we do not need to be confined to a specific space, but be free to venture into any space and go beyond the boundary norms, even if it seems dark and scary at times.

I was hugely inspired by children’s storybooks with whimsical and fantastical illustrations. Using ink allows me to work on the fine details which I am not able to achieve with paint and brush. I find it very therapeutic doing repetitive lines and curves to create the details in my drawings.

Holding On Till The End
13cm x 18cm
Ink on Archival Paper and Wooden Picture Frames - 10 Individual Pieces

This series is a surreal narrative collection of my journey through my beloved grandmother’s illness until her subsequent passing.

It is tinged with sadness and loneliness. The numbness and pain that I felt during this period are portrayed in the images of the little girl wandering aimlessly, holding on to the tree which represents the root of her existence, trying to cope and accept the realities of the situation. I had willed myself to be strong to hold on and not let the pain drown my will. The drawings bleed over to the sides of the frames to depict that pain and the universe have no boundaries.
