The Orchid

Orchids are my late grandmother’s favourite flowers. I started working on this series of paintings during her illness. It was my way of coping and feeling close to her. The orchid symbolizes her, the hands’ mine. I used dark and monotonous colours in the background to express the pain and sadness I was going through, and a brighter colour for the flower to depict the vibrant and loving person that my grandmother was.
