Bread Tag Calendar
Bread Tags from the collection of the artist's family

Bread has always been a quiet staple in my family — on the breakfast table, at tea time, even late at night for supper. For as long as I can remember, my grandmother kept a loaf at home, always ready for a sandwich whenever I asked.

What caught my fascination though were the small, unassuming bread tags. I would play with them in my little hands before Grandma patiently clipped them back onto the packet. Over time, she and my mum began saving each one, tucking them away after every loaf was finished. Slowly, they filled an entire jar — a curious archive dating all the way back to 1994.
When my grandmother passed, that jar was entrusted to me. And in those brightly coloured bits of plastic, I see more than just tags. I see childhood mornings and quiet afternoons, my grandmother’s love folded into every slice of bread, every simple gesture. They are tokens of time, small but profound. A reminder of days gone by, and memories that will forever be cherished.
